EADT Business Awards

EADT Business Awards

Aponic had a night out last night and managed to win the EADT Small Business Award and be chosen in the Business of the year award too. We were also finalists in the Food and Farming award and Knowledge Catalyst awards. It was a great evening and we were delighted to be joined by two of our latest employees Charlie Howell and George Laws who we are sure will go on the great things in the company.

Many thanks to the sponsors of the event, The East Anglian Daily Times, The Suffolk Chamber of Commerce and EDF Energy with the category sponsors Adnams Brewary, Ashtons Legal and The University of Suffolk for making this such a special evening.

As a surprise extra, we also recieved the overall business of the year award finalist too, so really chuffed about that too.

We are looking forward to this summer and we may even be lucky enough to win a few more awards too so we will keep you posted!

Aponic at Number 10

SB100As part of our Small Business 100 Award, we were taken to Downing Street with many other businesses to talk to ministers and meet all of the other Top 100 UK small businesses.

Prime Minister Theresa May said:

“Small Business Saturday is an opportunity for us to celebrate the success of the UK’s 5.4 million small businesses - from family run restaurants, to innovative tech start-ups, to local corner shops.

I’m delighted that we had such a great representation of firms here in Downing Street to mark this event and recognise the prosperity they bring to the UK.”

“Small Business Saturday has become an exceptional example of collaboration and co-operation with small businesses teaming up in communities around the UK,” explains Campaign Director Michelle Ovens.

“We aim to showcase the level of diversity, innovation and talent that is active within our small business sector and persuading people to get out and support their friends, neighbours and family members and reinforce local communities and economies.”

American Express was the founder of the campaign in the US and is the principal supporter of Small Business Saturday UK, as part of its on-going commitment to encourage consumers to shop small. The campaign also benefits from the backing of leading business organisations including the Federation of Small Businesses and Enterprise Nation as well as other corporate supporters including PRS For Music, TalkTalk Business, Vistaprint, Post Office, Clear Channel, STIHL, Dropbox, Facebook, Virgin Media Business and Indeed.

West Suffolk Business Festival Winners!

Aponic Winners of Green/Environmental AwardsWe are really proud to have been awarded the Best Environmental Business Award last night at the Apex in Bury St Edmunds. It was a lovely evening and there were so many nice people there, we were put on the naughty table at the back which yielded two award winners in the end, us and a lovely wee thing called Chantelle who won the Apprentice of the year award.

The award was sponsored by Easton & Otley College and hosted by the Bury Free Press. All of the sponsors for the evening were responsible for sponsoring, enabling and inspiring my company and many others.

A good time was had by all, some new faces and some old friends and maybe a few sore heads and dancing injuries this morning but well worth it.

NIAB Research Hub News

Aponic Vertical Aeroponic Growing SystemThis week we have installed two systems into the National Institute of Agricultural Botany (NIAB) Research Hub at Hasse Fen in Cambridge.

We put up a commercial system with some of our double sided tubes in for maximum growth space and some of our single sided tubes in the same system. We are going to plant with peas, broad beans, iceberg lettuces, greek basil and some kale to start with and some experimental crops too.

We also installed an aquaponic system to compliment research by Entomics into using black soldier flies to break down food waste and turn it into usable nutrients. We will be feeding the fish on a mixture of black soldier fly larvae and some of the produce from the growing tubes where we will be growing chia plants which are very high in Omega 3 oils. This will be a research project into true cirular sustainability of food crops which will also test the possibilities of creating commercial fish food without using huge quantities of fish trawled from the sea.

More pictures and updates to come.
